When launching a solo business, you can easily burn out by trying to play someone else. A business is merely a vehicle to serve your life. If you do not know who you are, building a business is pointless. Your Career Map is built on the BE — HAVE — DO framework created by Hoang Hxn. This 3-layer positioning model helps you stay honest about who you are before packaging products or launching marketing campaigns. This guide walks you through the 4 steps to enter your Career Map into your Digital Brain: review your lived experience, pin down your role, package your product outputs, and save your structure to activate AI guardrails.

Preparation Before You Begin

Setting up your career map requires only one thing: complete honesty with yourself.
  • Skip the corporate buzzwords and do not try to sound fancy.
  • Use voice recording or type directly into Tana. Speaking your thoughts is about 40% faster than typing and reveals your authentic voice naturally.

Step 1 — Review Your Lived Experience

Before claiming a title, look back across the path you walked to get here:
  • Work and study history: What did you study? Where did you work? What companies or side projects did you start?
  • Failures and hard lessons: Where did you stumble? What friction broke your old models (for example: physical retail rent eating cash, or client work that could not scale)?
  • The turning point: Why did you pivot to online business, digital products, or coaching?
Type or speak these milestones quickly into Tana so you can see your real-world experience clearly.

Step 2 — Define Your Role (The BE Layer)

From your lived experience in Step 1, answer 3 core positioning questions to define who you are:
  1. Who are you? Describe your background, craft, and expertise in 1 or 2 plain sentences.
  2. Who do you help? Identify the exact group of people you want to serve (for example: solo creators or boutique consultants).
  3. What outcome do you deliver, and how? State the final transformation you deliver (for example: automate their business to regain personal freedom).
Real-world example from Hoang Hxn:
“I am Hoang Hxn, an independent systems architect. I help solopreneurs automate their business using the BE - HAVE - DO map to build a life of freedom.”
Check whether this role sits right at the intersection of 4 survival pillars:
  • Matches your passion (you enjoy doing it long term without getting bored).
  • Matches your strengths (your unfair advantage and highest skill).
  • Solves a real customer need (relieves genuine pain buyers already have).
  • Holds commercial demand (generates enough cash flow to keep your business alive).

Step 3 — Package Your Product Outputs

Once your identity is clear, map out your commercial outputs:

1. The HAVE Layer (Your Digital Asset Vault)

These are assets packaged directly from your skills: templates, checklists, SOPs, workshops, or video courses.
  • The rule: Build once, distribute infinitely across the web.
  • Store everything in your Digital Brain so software works as leverage instead of manual labor.

2. The DO Layer (Your Natural Marketing Funnel)

This is how you share value from what you have to attract buyers, following 3 steps: Attract ➔ Nurture ➔ Convert. Because content comes straight from who you are (the BE layer), you turn on your mic and speak naturally without pretending to be a guru.

Step 4 — Save Your Structure and Activate Your AI Guardrail

After completing these steps, save your positioning structure inside the Positioning node of your Digital Brain:
  • Save this entire framework inside your template.
  • Activate AI guardrails: Your Career Map becomes the Single Source of Truth for your workspace. Whenever you log a new idea or consider taking on a new client project, AI compares that idea against your Career Map. If the project sits outside your strengths or risks burning you out, AI warns you to say no immediately.
