Free AI Credits and Usage Policies

When you first register for Tana, you do not need to enter credit card details immediately:

1. Free Trial AI Credits

  • Starter Allowance: Every newly registered Tana account receives a bundle of Free Trial AI Credits without requiring international payment setup.
  • Feature Access: You can spend these credits on every AI command inside the Digital Brain: Analyze Source, Book Autofill, Unblock Ideas, and AI Chat.
  • Credit Burn Rate: Credits are consumed based on input length (Input Prompts) and generated responses (Output Tokens). Short tasks (such as title generation or book tag autofill) consume negligible credits.

2. Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)

If you prefer to stay on the Free plan while using unlimited AI without upgrading to Pro, you can configure your own API keys:
  • Tana allows you to plug in your private OpenAI API key or Google AI Studio API key directly.
  • Activating Use your own AI key in settings routes AI requests directly through your OpenAI or Google Cloud account at wholesale cost (often pennies for thousands of executions).

How to Audit and Manage Your Account

Press Ctrl + K (or Cmd + K on macOS), type Settings, and press Enter.

Check Account and AI Credits

  • Select Account to review your current subscription status.
  • Select AI & Credits to view monthly consumption charts and remaining credit balances.

Top-up credits or cancel anytime

  • If you run out of credits mid-month, you can purchase optional credit top-ups without upgrading tiers.
  • You can cancel your Pro subscription at any time. When downgraded to Free, all your data remains 100% intact and fully accessible.
