The web is an ocean of information filled with insightful analyses on Medium, Substack, LinkedIn, and niche technical blogs. Yet if you only hoard browser bookmarks without reopening them, you fall straight into the hoarding trap. The standard workflow in BrainNode OS turns an online article into contextual source material. You use the built-in Source AI Assistant to extract core arguments and distill 1 actionable seed idea for your own business.

4 Steps to Capture Knowledge from Articles

1

Drop the article URL into your Intake Hub

Whenever you encounter an insightful essay or deep research paper:
  • Open the Today page in Tana.
  • Create a new line, enter the article title (or paste the article URL).
  • Type #source and press Enter.
  • Fill in core properties:
    • Source Type: Choose Article.
    • URL: Paste the direct link (Medium, Substack, personal blog).
    • Author: Link the author’s profile (#contact) to preserve attribution and build your expert network.
If the article sits behind a paywall or login screen where AI cannot read the URL, copy the raw text or the most important passages directly into the Text Source field.
2

Run Source AI to summarize and extract arguments

Skip spending hours re-reading a 3,000-word essay. Let the AI assistant pull out the skeleton:
  • On the article node, click the AI command: Analyze Source.
  • The system scans the content from the URL or the Text Source field:
    • Refines the title to be punchy and reflective of the core thesis.
    • Pulls out the author’s 3 to 5 primary arguments.
    • Suggests angles you can adapt into actionable insights.
3

Add your personal reaction and extract 1 Seed idea

The real difference between mindless copying and true knowledge transformation is your own critical perspective:
  • Under the analysis, write 1 sentence sharing your stance:
    • Do you agree or disagree with the author’s premise?
    • How does this metric or case study support your own methodology?
  • Create a child line below expressing that practical angle and apply the #seed supertag.
  • Set the status to Collecting and link the From Source field back to this article.
4

Review and transition to the Package Station

Ensure your notes are clean and traceable:
  • The original article URL and author are safely cataloged in your Library for future citations.
  • You have at least 1 independent perspective tagged as a seed, ready to develop into an opinion post, guide, or case study.
