Voice monologues on mobile are the fastest way to capture flowing thoughts with zero friction. Speaking is roughly 40% faster than typing, allowing solopreneurs to preserve 100% of nuanced details without losing their train of thought.
Prerequisite: You have installed Tana on mobile as shown in the Installation Guide.

4 Steps to Record Voice and Distill a Seed Idea

1

Tap the microphone and speak freely

Open Tana on mobile, tap the Microphone icon, and speak freely about today’s observations, lessons, or customer interactions.Speak uninterrupted for 5 to 10 minutes without worrying about polishing your words. Set Destination to Today and tap send.
2

Sync to desktop and tag as #source

Open your Today page on desktop (Ctrl + Shift + D or Cmd + Shift + D on macOS). Your voice note syncs automatically and displays clean transcribed text.
  • Apply the #source supertag to the recording node.
  • Under Source Type, choose Internal (Reflection).
  • Choose the matching Topic (for example: Writing or Business).
Preserve Raw Context: The original audio #source node is your permanent intellectual property. Raw sources remain permanently in your vault for traceability and are never shared directly with the public.
3

Use AI Chat to extract core takeaways

Click on the recording node, press Ctrl + K (or Cmd + K on macOS), and open AI Chat:
  • Enter the prompt: “Analyze this voice memo and extract the core takeaways”.
  • AI analyzes the text and pulls 3 to 4 starred insights from your own spoken words, giving you the complete picture without re-listening to the audio.
4

Extract your single sharpest seed idea

A long recording often touches 2 or 3 distinct concepts (for example: Fear of judgment and Connecting the dots).
  • Select only one seed: Choose the single most compelling idea you want to share today to create a #seed child node. The other ideas remain safe in the parent source for future packaging.
  • Set a primary title: Choose a short, direct headline (for example: Shift your storyteller perspective to cure publishing anxiety).
  • Save backup titles: If you have another great headline angle, paste it into the Description field below so you do not lose the hook.

3 Practical Voice Capture Rules

Speak without pausing

Do not worry about rambling or repeating phrases. Tana Voice catches every word and AI refines the structure later.

Link your source field

Always set the From Source field on your #seed node pointing back to the parent #source to preserve the original context.

Never share raw sources

Only carry refined seed ideas forward to the Package Station to write articles, protecting the purity of your raw vault.
