4 Steps to Capture Knowledge from Audio
1
Create a source node with episode details
When you hear an intriguing angle or before you press play, create a note anchor:
- Open the Tana app on mobile or desktop.
- Create a new line, enter the episode title (or guest name and main topic).
- Type
#sourceand press Enter. - Fill in core properties:
- Source Type: Choose
Podcast / Audio. - Author / Host: Link the host or guest using
#contact. - URL: Paste the episode link from Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or YouTube Music.
- Source Type: Choose
2
Jot down the spark idea at the timestamp
Do not try to summarize 60 to 90 minutes of talk. Record only what directly resonates with you:
- Log the timestamp: Note down the minute mark if possible (for example:
24:30). - One trigger sentence: Write 1 or 2 concise sentences reflecting your epiphany:
- What core challenge did the speaker raise?
- Which sentence made you stop in your tracks?
- What real-world case study resolved a friction point you currently face?
3
Extract 1 actionable Seed idea
After listening or when returning to your desk at the end of the day, reopen the source node:
- Under your reaction notes, create a new line stating the practical lesson.
- Apply the
#seedsupertag. - Shape the seed toward customer value:
- How does this idea resolve a painful problem for your audience?
- Can you write an opinion post agreeing with or critiquing this viewpoint?
- Set the status to
CollectingorIncubating.
4
Review and advance to the Package Station
Ensure your note is clear and connected:
- The source node links the episode for future reference.
- Personal reflection notes link to real lessons.
- A clear seed idea stands ready for your content calendar or product outline.
